Sephora Shines at Emmys

Mad Men's Christina Hendricks beauty look is a winner.

Following New York Fashion Week is the beauty's industry's next big event, The Emmys. Famous faces are adorned with the business's best cosmetics by top talent  – like Vanessa Scali for Sephora Collection, who worked on Christina Hendricks, Emmy-nominated supporting actress for AMC's Mad Men.

According to Scali, “Christina‘s [Naeem Khan] gown had an ornate, art deco feel which immediately made me think of a 1920’s Bordeaux lip. We wanted to keep her makeup classic, so we focused on her amazing full lips in a custom mix of red and blackberry, with a soft yet smoldering emphasis on her eyes using a mix of shimmery gold shadows to create a modern take on the lavish 20’s.”

“The lips are the focal point of Christina’s look so to compliment the gorgeous sequin pattern of her gown, we chose to custom blend a Bordeaux shade using Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red and 14 Blackberry Sorbet  This product is soft yet long lasting, so Christina doesn’t need to worry about reapplying on the red carpet.  The lips are rich and supersaturated with color but, the lip line is left soft as the color is pressed into the skin. This stained look is bold and elegant against her skin.

Next, we filled in her brows using the Sephora Collection Retractable Brow Pencil in Honey Blonde to give them soft definition. Using the hakuho-do + Sephora Pro Kusuriyubi Angled Concealer Brush, we applied a wash of dark, gold metallic shadows from the Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow Portfolio from her lash line to the crease and wrapping under the bottom lashes. This gives the skin a kick of shine which offers contrast against the matte lip and adds luxury to the look. We used the Sephora Collection Contour Matte Gel Liner in All Black Everything on the upper lid to emphasize and elongates the eyes. We finished the eyes with several generous coats of the Sephora Collection Outrageous Volume – Dramatic Volume Mascara in Ultra Black. We wanted the skin to look luminous and clean, so we prepped with the Sephora Collection Face Mask  in Honey to create a clean even canvas and kept foundation and concealer to a minimum.

After setting the skin with the, Sephora Collection Bright Set Loose Finishing Powder using the hakuho-do + Sephora Pro Kusabi Wedge Sloping Powder Brush, we used the Sephora Collection Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation to give her skin a soft touch of weightless coverage. Then, we used the Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Concealer under the eyes and on the inner hollow of the nose just beside the inner corner of the eyes before applying a subtle contour to shape the face – a touch on the hairline and a sweep under the cheekbones – using the Sephora Collection Colorful Blush in 24 Los Cabos. As a final defining touch, we applied a pop of color to the apples of her cheeks using the Sephora Collection Colorful Blush in 06 Flirt It Up and used a luminous pearl powder from the Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Sculpting Contour Trio in Sassy on the brow bones, along the cheekbones, and down the bridge of the nose to create soft, sheer highlights and make her skin appear fresh and lit from within.”
